Saddam's Attorneys to Return as Trial Begins Again on Monday
Nov-25-05 09:53 am

As noted in a post in October, Saddam Hussein's attorneys had indicated that they would not participate in the trial, fearing for their lives. The BBC is now reporting that they have decided to return:

Lawyers representing former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein have decided to drop their boycott of the legal proceedings against him.

They'd initially refused to attend the trial when it resumes on Monday, after two lawyers were killed and several others received death threats.

But a spokesman for the defence team said they would attend in the interests of justice, despite their safety fears.

As the trial begins again on Monday, it will be watched closely both for the international legal issues that are presented and the political consequences that it may have for the future of Iraq.
