Dan Porterfield on Student Activism and Darfur
Dec-3-06 10:27 pm
Our friend and Georgetown colleague, Dan Porterfield, has an excellent op ed in today's Baltimore Sun on student activism and the Darfur crisis.  Dan, who is Georgetown's Vice President for Public Affairs and Strategic Development and teaches in the English Department, traces the rise of STAND (Students Taking Action Now-Darfur) from a Georgetown student group to an international network with chapters in over 500 colleges, university, and high schools.  As we have noted in previous posts, one of the founders of STAND, Martha Heinemann Bixby, has served as the Outreach Coordinator for the Save Darfur Coalition and is now reporting on developments in Darfur and other trouble spots in the world in her blog, Lives in the Balance.
