Practicalities: Health Insurance and Travel Assistance When Students Travel Abroad
Dec-6-07 03:20 pm
As students prepare to study abroad in the spring, both parents and students feel excitement about the students’ adventure of exploring a new culture and angst about the challenges of navigating through it. The newest addition to Georgetown University’s (GU) global outreach is International SOS (ISOS). ISOS is a premier travel assistance company that provides an array of international travel services…from online tracking of personal travel itineraries to dispatching its fleet of planes for expedited evacuations of student groups.
ISOS is also the new travel assistance company servicing the Study Abroad Health Insurance Plan for GU Students. Whether a medical referral is needed or an emergency medical evacuation, students can just call ISOS. The ISOS phone numbers are on the back of the Study Abroad Health Insurance Identification Card given to each student before they depart.
Before students depart they should access the ISOS web site through links on the GU Student Health Insurance web page, and:
• Register their travel itineraries with ISOS in a Personal Travel Record
• Adhere to the immunization requirements stated
• Review the travel tips and alerts for specific countries
Following these guidelines will minimize the angst of navigating through new cultures and will enable ISOS to more easily assist students, if an emergency arises. Links to GU travel abroad information can be found on the Student Health Insurance web site at
